I remember selling his books at my shop. Fascinating study. After knowing the more modern Wiccans who were very serious about their belief structure, It always made me wonder if some of the old ones were a bit more shock value for the Hollywood tabloids. Aleister Crowley, Anton La Vey ...etc
I don’t know if it’s accurate or wise to refer to Crowley as being less sensationalist than Gardner. For one Gardner stole a lot from Crowley who shared secrets of the Golden Dawn, and two-Gardner was no stranger to media sensationalism
